Wastewater treatment plants - robust surface waterproofing
Key Facts
Waterproofing and repair of communcal wastewater treatment plants have very specific requirements on the materials and coatings used within the structure. Dirt and rain water emerging from the pipework into the plant is subjected to a variety of cleaning stages. Due to the variety of water qualities, the concrete surfaces are exposed to a variety of risks. Moisture penetration from the rear and bubble formation from osmostic pressure form only a part of the type of damage which appear. For this reason, with repair measures, the concrete sections in contact with the water must be permanently protected with specially selected primers and water repellent surface waterproofing compounds.
1 Levelling out voids
Make good small areas of crack damage and defects up to 40 mm with a trowel or lath. Apply ASOCRET-BIS-5/40 “wet in wet“ over an ASOCRET-HS-Flex slurry bonding coat.
2 Evening out surfaces
Apply ASOCRET-BIS-1/6 on to the prepared substrate at the desired thickness – up to 6 mm in one application. Do not post-treat the surface with a wet brush or steel float. For a smooth transition it is possible to rub down the repaired surface with a sponge.
3 Waterproofing wall-floor junctions
At the transition between wall and floor as well as over connecting joints, brush or trowel apply AQUAFIN-2K/M-PLUS and bond the waterproof tape ASO-Joint-Tape-2000-S without voids or folds. Completely cover over with the surface membrane.
4 Transition to flange construction
At the flange construction, apply the special primer ASODUR-SG3-thix by brush or roller over the abraded flange. Once hardened, roller apply a second coat of ASODUR-SG3-thix and broadcast 0.5 - 1.0 mm quartz sand into the surface whilst it is still wet.
5 Quartz sand
Once hardened, apply the second coat of ASODUR-SG3-thix by roller and whilst the primer is still wet, broadcast with 0.5 - 1.0 mm quartz sand.
6 Waterproofing all areas
Apply a minimum of two coats of AQUAFIN-2K/M-PLUS by spray, brush or trowel.
