"The dancing elephant" revitalization centre in Venlo, Netherlands
The old "Frederik Hendik Kazerne", a former military police barracks from 1915 in Venlo-Blerick (Holland) was converted to a modern rehabilitation centre belonging to the CIRAN health centre (Centra voor Integrale Revalidatieen Arbeidsactivering Nederland).
Due to the significant problem of rising damp, the company Het Zuiden from Eindhoven was instructed by the main contractor to waterproof using horizontal barriers and to restore with the SCHOMBURG THERMOPAL restoration plaster system.
In the lower wall area more than 500 m² were restored. The goal was to modernize whilst harmonizing the old charm with the high requirement levels of a health facility. In the foreground was the need to eliminate the damp problem in order to achieve a healthy room climate. The goal was fully realized.
